We spent a week in the hotel annexe which is just a few short steps across the road from the main building. The annexe appears to contain only bedrooms, maybe suites, but the room was clean and comfortable, especially the bed but no matter which side of the road you’re on, the takeoff runway from Heraklion Airport is only a couple of miles away, so it can be very noisy. The location of the hotel is ideal for taking a short walk into the old town or down to the port and parking is available in a nearby parking garage with the cost incorporated into the room charge. This charge also includes the buffet breakfast which offers a good range of products, although the hot food, e.g. fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, would be best described as tepid. The servers are polite, friendly and efficient, the latter being an absolute necessity at breakfast time when there are often tour parties stocking up on food before they go off for the day or to their next destination. The hotel has a rooftop restaurant with a great view over the port but the food service, whilst acceptable, ends at 10.00 p.m. There are, however, plenty of options nearby around the main pedestrianised area. If I were to return to Heraklion, I would happily stay there again and, with luck, the experience would be quieter, assuming the new airport opens in 2027 as promised.

The Lato is conveniently located near the port in beautiful Heraklion, Crete. The hotel design is modern, geometric. Room had no washcloths or tissues. The towels were very thin. I had a tiny balcony with one plastic chair, no table. The breakfast buffet is nice. There is lovely rooftop restaurant with good food.

Lovely hotel near everything. Wonderful breakfast too.
