The hotel isn't a 4**** let's get that out of the way . It needs a lick of paint as they have started to do . Our room was spacious and was kept immaculately clean . Our cleaner went over and above and left us a fabulous suprise on the bed one morning . Cons Rooms need a refresh , lick of paint , maybe update the bathroom. Sunbeds a plenty , just no where to put them . Space limited with the amount of guests . Entertainment was mainly Spanish speaking , so the catered accordingly Pros Situated within a short walk of the city centre and 15-20mins walk to the beachfront. Yes it's hilly to get down , but there is a lift to get back into town Sunbeds round pool is a problem , however , the sun terrace for adults on the 8th floor was under used . 30 sunbeds up there with a self serve bar , plus a shower to cool you off . Still not satisfied ? Well a shuttle bus , it's Free !! takes you to the hotels beach plot . Sunbeds aplenty and over the road if all inclusive a bar/diner to allow you to keep your All inclusive benefits . Food .... All good , not a vast choice , but daily menu changes on some things , gave you a variation . Staff brilliant at every level Only GRIPE ........ Asked for a kettle at reception twice . When it arrived it was leaking and broken . Took it back to have it exchanged . Still waiting for the replacement Short walk from Train station too .

This was our first visit to the Griego as we usually stay in a Sandos hotel in Benidorm. The location of the Griego is very good for shopping and getting to the beach via the lift (we only used the shuttle bus once but found it dropped you too far away and the bar was not on the beach but on the other side of the road). The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful, the superior room was lovely with a comfy bed and a powerful walk in shower. My husband had to make minor repa.irs in the room i.e., loose toilet seat, towel hanger fallen off, fridge door scraping and marking the floor, as even though we told reception - nothing was done. The food was average - always found something to eat especially the salads which were good. The pool area was too crowded but the coffee bar was a nice vibe and provided 10 types of coffee and good cocktails. The entertainment was dire! It felt odd not to have a large bar in the hotel were you could relax in the evening, there was only the small coffee bar or the pool bar where you had to sit outside on plastic chairs and drink out of plastic glasses. There was also Pepes Bar which opened at 9pm but had loud music and disco lights - not always condusive to a chilled evening! Nowhere to have a dance which I was surprised about as most of the clientel were Spanish and they love to dance, as do we!

Definitely not a 4* hotel now. We've been here a few times and it's been great but won't be back. It's tired and dirty. Our room on arrival at first glance looked clean. The floor was filthy walking around in socks they were covered in hair and fluff. I asked for it to be cleaned the next morning. We found spilled medication (tablet) under the desk, still there a week later. The bath was rusting and the enamel coming off. If you are over 14"widr you need to enter the bathroom sideways. The cleaners aren't very thorough often not even cleaning the sink Curtains had rips in them patio door didn't lock. The guy on reception didn't care no other rooms available we were told when asked to move. In the restaurant there is a good choice (unless you have dietary restrictions like vegetarian or gluten free) we noticed a lot of cross contamination; using the same grill for meat, fish and non meat omelette. Tongs used for both meat and non meat dishes (often due to other guests, but I did see a chef doing it too). If you prefer hot meals the microwave becomes your best friend. Even the food in the 'a la carte' BBQ restaurant was cold. I will say most of the staff are great especially those behind the bar, at least they interacted and smiled, not like the others who might acknowledge you with a small smile. We've spoken with other repeat guests who all said standards have dropped so much they won't be back. If you get a superior room it may be better. Food and drinks available 18hrs a day. The pool used to closed off until 9am, now people are going down in the morning while it's still dark and putting chairs, table and umbrellas in the space they want. Sunbeds are unlocked at 9. Lots of people grabbing their beds and then leaving them for hours. It's not policed
