We stayed here for a week with our two children age 5 and 2. We were travelling with other family members and booked this hotel specifically because they had 2 bedrooms apartments - we wanted a separate room with proper beds for the kids instead of a sofa bed in a living room. We booked bed and breakfast board. We arrived off our flight after 11pm and there were no hotel staff, only security guards who checked us in. As soon as we walked through the door of the apartment I knew it wasn't a 2 bedroom - it was a 1 bedroom with x2 singles and a corner sofa (not sofa bed). I went back down to reception and told the security guard that we had the wrong room and he just shrugged his shoulders and said it would have to be sorted out in the morning. When I said there weren't enough beds for us he said there was nothing he could do he was just security. We made the best of it sleeping across the L-shape sofa and the single beds. In the morning the hotel phoned me and I went down to reception. They said they wouldn't have a 2 bedroom apartment available until the afternoon of the next day and we would have to stay in the current situation another night. They offered us complimentary half board for our stay - we weren't thrilled about the prospect of another night in the wrong room but were content to take the half board option and use it for lunches. The hotel phoned me around 2pm the following day to say there was a 2 bedroom apartment ready for us. This definitely didn't give our holiday the best start but these things can happen. I've tried not to let this cloud the rest of my review and I've been as honest as possible. We wouldn't stay at this hotel again, not just because of the room mix up, but because of a lot of other factors too. So here's my list of pros and cons of this hotel, especially for families like us who have young kids and are planning to use pushchairs etc - PROS - the apartments are modern and well furnished - its got cups/plates/cutlery/cooker/kettle/toaster/coffee machine but no microwave or oven. - the location of the hotel is excellent - you can walk to las vistas beach in about 2 minutes and you are located right on the Golden Mile. There are lots of restaurants, shops and bars all around the area. There is also a taxi rank right outside opposite Zara. Mini golf up the street too and the little 'train' that goes around las americas stops outside the Hard Rock Cafe just a 5-10 min walk away. -there are late night convenience shops attached to the hotel and inside the hotel near the pool that are open to 1am -good children's pool, sandpit and playpark though all could do with an upgrade. There isn't much in the park for under 3s. Don't know what the kids club is like as we didn't use it. -good breakfast buffet -there is a convenience room with toilets/showers that you can use if you are staying at the pool after you've checked out, though it was quite dirty when we were in it and they only give you a 20min slot (when you've 2 adults and 2 kids under 5 this is a near impossible task to get everyone showered, dried and dressed in that time in my opinion!) We were 3 minutes over our time and we had the staff banging on the door and shouting at us, it was actually quite a stressful end to our time at Coral Compostela Beach Hotel. For a family hotel, the slots should be at least 30mins for families. CONS -the hotel is huge and split in to separate blocks that can't be navigated on one level. The lifts are tiny and only take you to certain levels. We found it hard to fit our cabin-size buggy in along with x2 adults and a 5 year old. We could just about fit our suitcases in but nothing else. From our 2nd apartment we couldn't find a lift to take the buggy down to the pool level at all - we carried it down to breakfast and up again every morning and we saw lots of other families doing the same. -while the rooms are modern and clean, the communal areas are not. Every day we saw bags of rubbish laying around the walkways and I passed the same dirt and litter on some of the floors for 4 days in a row. -the scramble for sunbeds is like nothing I've ever seen. We had a good view of the pool from our 2nd apartment and people start to line up at 7:30am. At 8am a staff member raises his hand and its like an Olympic sprint all over the pool area for sunbeds. My husband went one morning and said he wouldn't do it again - he was walking but people were running and pushing him out of the way. There are people who put towels down and also don't come back all day. We found around 4pm you could usually get a sunbed again and would go to the pool around that time most days. -the bigger pool is all one depth - at 5ft 2" I could only stand on my tiptoes. I'm not a strong swimmer and I didn't feel comfortable carrying the kids with me in the bigger pool as I could just about keep my head above the water. -the kids pool is good and very shallow with a couple of small slides, but the tiles all around are extremely slippy. Our 2 year old kept skidding and falling every time we got out of the pool to go down the slide. Pool shoes helped but it's definitely a flaw. We saw adults slipping and falling in both bare feet and flip flops. There is fake grass around some of the kids pool but it stinks of wet dog smell, not sure why..! There are also quite a lot of chipped and missing tiles etc in the pools. -we weren't all-inclusive but I don't think we'd want to be - the all-inclusive is the buffet at set times. You can't get food all day like other hotels and the pool bar menu etc isn't included. -there is no air con, just ceiling fans. We didn't get air con because we didn't feel we needed it but family members with annex apartments really struggled with the heat in their bedrooms. The air con unit was 80EUR for the week. Generally, we had a good holiday and liked the location of Coral Compostela Beach Hotel but would not stay here again or recommend it to other people with families. For a 'family' hotel, the complicated access issues for pushchairs/wheelchairs is a huge problem, along with the tiny lifts. There was no kids evening entertainment and the atmosphere was quite 'dead' compared with other family hotels we've stayed in in Tenerife. The communal areas were sometimes quite dirty with rubbish bags and litter laying around. The 20min slot for the convenience room is also too short when you've got children to sort out. There are much better family hotels in Tenerife with a better atmosphere and layout for families. It isn't a coincidence when you hear other people saying the same thing - two other families and an older couple we spoke to said they would not stay here again.
I'm currently holidaying at this resort in a private villa and I've had to go to the beach everyday and thank god its on the doorstep of this resort as we cant get a sunbed at the pool any day. People are reserving them from 6.30am with towels on them. That to me is not a holiday and its very easily remedied by the hotel. Theres some upgrades being done at the resort so bear that in mind it can be noisy at times. The location is fantastic though and close to everything.
