We have just returned from a great 7 nights stay. A special thank you to Paul and Theo for making our holiday special! The resort is very clean throughout, offers great facilities and all staff are friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and return!
We stayed at Elounda Residence and Waterpark from the 29th July until the 8th August and this is an honest review on our family getaway. We were greeted upon arrival at reception by Theodore, he was helpful and gave us our room key (room 27) and told us we have the best room in the hotel. We had booked a grand family two bedroom apartment. On arriving at the room, we were tired after the journey and being nearly midnight we just settled down. There was not a bed for our youngest, instead a travel cot which first rang alarm bells to us not being in the correct room, and certainly not the room that we expected. There was not hardly any space and it was far from grand! The room was tired with mould on the base of the shower screen. We raised this with both easyJet and reception and were offered an alternative room which we were happy with, but it did take time out of our much needed holiday to sort this out. We later learned that many other guests had similar issues, one telling us that Theodore stated that they had also been given the best room in the hotel! The biggest issue for us however was the food. For a 4 star rated hotel, the food was dreadful. There was not much of a selection and what there was on offer lacked the quality expected. The food was running out and if you had food on your plate and had to wait for something you fancied to be replenished, it would be cold. The children's options were pretty much not existent, unless you wanted them to eat dry half hamburgers or chicken nuggets that were grey inside and tasted nothing like chicken nuggets! The breakfast sausages were cocktail frankfurters that had hard skin on! I have stayed at many lesser star rated resorts and the food has been far superior to that of the Elounda Residence, so much so, we made sure we ate out so that the children and us would have an enjoyable meal and full tummy, which you should not have to do when you pay for all inclusive! This come at a cost to us that we were not expecting. We even ordered a delivery on one occasion as did many other guests. The shuttle bus was another issue. They state that due to government rules, they can't take you right in to Elounda, but take you to the main road. It takes you to a side road that is a very steep walk down, and although we attempted to walk back to meet the shuttle bus on our first trip to Elounda, we decided against it thereafter which resulted in more cost of taxis back to the hotel. The last main issue that was experienced by our 6 year old daughter was the female staff member in the lower bar area just above the waterpark. My daughter ordered a drink on a number of occasions but she kept in ignoring her for some unknown reason, she returned upset without a drink so my partner went back up with her and the woman knew what she had done. I was hoping to test if this member of staff would do it again, or at least get her name, but we spent most of our time in Elounda or at the top pool after this. Many of the staff, especially in the restaurant did not greet you with a smile and seemed fed up in their roles. One staff member that was always happy and a pleasure to communicate with was the lady in the mini market, I think her name was Malla, and the reception staff were helpful enough. We enjoyed the pools and the view from our upgraded room was amazing. Elounda is a beautiful day out, two sunbeds and a parasol for 10 euros a day, snorkelling was great and the food in Porto Rino was superb, it became the highlight of our stay. It is very steep and many steps, which we knew about prior to our visit, there is a buggy that can take you to your room etc, but sometimes you have to wait for it to become available. On one occasion we waited for half an hour and in the end decided to walk. We were very disappointed overall with our holiday to the Elounda Residence, but some amazing memories made.
Currently on holiday here. Disappointed. Booked all inclusive and yet you still have to buy basic drinking water. Which is ridiculous for a so called 4 star hotel. Rooms are dated, with broken grumpy tiles in bathroom and around flooring. Odd set up for shower that sprays water everywhere unless you hold the nozzle yourself. Toilets around pool were dirty with pool and pee left. Waterpark is actually just 4 slides and a splash pool for toddlers.
